Stocks took a stance and faced-off against the potential headwinds from a surge in coronavirus cases. Despite the fresh record levels of infection in some states, stocks extended gains on Friday with the three major averages ending end the week on a high note. Indexes were each up more 1% at the close.
At the close, the $DJI gained 1.37% to 29,479.28. The NASDAQ Composite moved higher to 11,829.29, up 1.02%. The S&P 500 gained 1.36% to 3585.18. The Russell 2000 gained 2.37% to 1748.88.
The InvestorsPrism family of indexes all closed higher. The PRISM Emerging Gene Therapy index closed higher by 1.7%. Abeona Therapeutics (ABEO, +5.79%) had a good day to help boost the index. The PRISM Emerging MedCannabis index moved higher by 1.2%. Pressure Bio (PBIO, +9.68%) was the star of the day in the index and led the advancers.
The PRISM Emerging MedDevices index traded higher by 0.6%. Other PRISM indexes closed higher.
The PRISM Emerging MedDiagnostics index moved higher by 1.0%. The PRISM Emerging New Economy index closed higher by 1.6%, and the PRISM Emerging Pet Care & AgriBiz index closed higher by 1.9% on the day. Zomedica Pharmaceuticals (ZOM, +18.5%) led the advancers after posting upbeat news about its TRUFORMA diagnostic device.
The biotech focused PRISM Emerging Vaccines & Cell Therapy index gained value, adding 0.5%. VBI Vaccines (VBIV, +9.84%) led the advancers.
The major commodities were mixed. At 4:00pm ET. Crude Oil is trading lower by 2.38% to $40.14. Gold is higher by 0.67% to $1885.90 per oz., and Silver is trading higher at $24.71 oz., up 1.66%. Bitcoin ($BTC) is holding the broke through the $16,000 level, exchanging hands at $16,182.33 at 4:00pm ET.
