Market Update (9/24)
Markets stifled the negative sentiment on Thursday with the three major indexes closing higher. Stocks zigzagged in early morning trade but grabbed traction by mid-day to trend modestly higher at the close. Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Tesla (TSLA) and Facebook (FB) all closed higher as investors picked at potential price deals after several weak trading sessions. Investors shrugged off a weak jobless claims report and instead went hunting for value.
At the end of the day, the $DJI gained 0.19% to 26,814.78. The NASDAQ Composite closed higher to 10,672.27, up 0.37%. The S&P 500 also gained ground by 0.30% to 3246.53. The Russell 2000 closed modestly higher to 1452.86.
The InvestorsPrism family of indexes closed mixed. The PRISM Emerging Gene Therapy index closed slightly higher by 0.03%. The PRISM Emerging MedCannabis index was lower by 1.3% on the day. The PRISM Emerging MedDevices index dropped by 0.3%.
Other PRISM indexes also closed mixed. The PRISM Emerging MedDiagnostics index lost 2.0%. The PRISM Emerging New Economy index closed lower by 0.3%, and the PRISM Emerging Pet Care & AgriBiz index closed higher by 1.1%. The biotech heavy PRISM Emerging Vaccines & Cell Therapy index closed lower by 0.6%.
The top commodities are trading mostly higher at the 4:00pm ET mark. Crude Oil moved to $40.23 per barrel, Gold is trading at $1870.30 per oz., and Silver is relatively flat at $23.15 oz.. Bitcoin ($BTC) found buyers and is trading at $10,658.10 as of 4pm est.
